New Bed Smell

Like a new car, a new Pure LatexBLISS mattress will come with a “new bed” smell. That is completely normal. Let us give you some information about how long you can expect that to last, what it is and why it happens.

The new bed smell is Natural Latex Rubber. The fact that your nose is inches from a new mattress certainly makes understanding what you are breathing in important. Of course, the quicker your new mattress airs out, the sooner the “new bed” smell goes away.

During the manufacturing process, they actually add a hint of vanilla that you may smell as well. Be assured a new mattress does not smell like rubber tires for your car, is not as intense and will definitely go away quicker.

Most people will smell the rubber in their new mattress for about two weeks. More sensitive noses may smell it up to four to six weeks. The quickest way to have the “new bed” smell go away is to let the mattress air out. That means leaving your bed linens off the top of the mattress during the day. Again, what your bed needs is air and time.

The smell from natural Latex Rubber is completely non-toxic. We use latex-glue between the layers in your mattress, which is also non-toxic. Follows is the make up of what is in the rubber in your mattress;

Non-Toxic Chemicals in Latex;
6 non-toxic chemicals (acrylate resins, diphenyl diisocyanate, Phenol-melamine resins, Phenol-urea, Polyvinyl acetate and waxes styrene- butadiene copolymer)

Natural Materials in Latex;
3 natural materials (fats, hevea brasiliensis milk, and water.)

As a point of reference, if you were sleeping on a new foam or spring and foam mattress, there could be:

-------------------------------------------------------
In Traditional Bedding Glues (Adhesive) :

Toxic Chemicals in Poly/ Memory Foam Glue:
48 toxic chemicals (see article on “Chemicals in A Mattress” on www.blissipedia.com)

Non Toxic Chemical in Poly/Memory Foam Glue:
1 non toxic chemical (diphenyl diisocyanate,)

Natural Material in Poly/Memory Foam Glue:
1 natural material (water.)
------------------------------------------------------
Poly Foam or Memory Foam

Toxic Chemicals in Poly/ Memory Foam Beds:
7 toxic chemicals (1,1,1,2 Tetrachoroethane, acetone, and dimethylformamide, Methyl benzene, Methylene dianiline, toluene-neoprene and Vinilideine chloride,)

Non Toxic Chemicals in Poly/Memory Foam Beds:
1 non-toxic chemical (diphenyl diisocyanate,)

Natural Material in Poly/Memory Foam Beds:
1 natural material (water.)

Latex: Bouncy or Buoyant?

Old school: Land line.
New school: Cell Phone.

Old school: Snail Mail.
New school: Email/Text.

Old school: Latex is bouncy
New school: Latex is buoyant

One of the greatest lessons we learned when we introduced Pure LatexBLISS in Europe was that we redefined the “feel” of Latex overnight.

Before we introduced Pure LatexBLISS, if you asked anyone, anywhere in the world what latex “felt” like compared to other foam beds, they would tell you three things,
1. Latex was the most expensive material in a mattress
2. Latex was a natural material instead of a petro-chemical
3. Latex was a “bouncy” feel

All of these things were true because of the way Latex beds have been built and what they were built with.

For over fifty years, most Latex Beds were made to provide great support but did not add pressure relief layers on top of that. Literally, the mattresses were 6-8” high and had little or no pressure relief layers on top. A Latex bed with only a support layer tends to be quite bouncy.

For over fifty years, many Latex Beds were made with Dunlop process Latex which is firm by it’s very nature. The “line” process is not conducive to making pressure relief levels of Latex. Dunlop process Latex tends to be quite bouncy.

For over fifty years, even Talalay Latex Beds were made with constructions that used only firm ILDs of Latex and a limited number of layers in the design. Using firm ILDs and one or two layers in the mattress design tends to be a quite bouncy feel.

For over fifty years, practically every Latex Bed available anywhere in the world was built with a quilted panel on top of the mattress hiding the true experience of Latex. If a Latex bed has a quilted top panel, it tends to feel quite “bouncy.”

Introduce Pure LatexBLISS. Bouncy is Gone. Buoyant is in.

We build a support layer and a pressure relief layer into all beds. The pressure relief layer is important to your body and your sleep, but it also makes the bed more comfortable. We use Natural Talalay Latex Rubber in every bed with the exception of one (Peace). We use multiple layers of Latex with different ILDs in every model and we never quilt the top of mattress because it takes away an amazing latex feel and is not as healthy for you to sleep on.

The result: When we ask customers and retail sales associates what our beds feel like, these are the words they use:

Buoyant
Suspended
Floating

A whole new Latex World.

The ONE THING to Demonstrate

If you tell me you have one minute to learn everything about what our bed is about and what makes us different. I am only going to do ONE demonstration with you.

I am going to ask that you lay down on the best Pure LatexBLISS bed you have on your back and feel the support. And then I am going to ask you to roll over to your side and pay special attention to the pressure in your shoulders and hips. Most people will agree that you will feel none. That is unlike any other mattress in the industry. I am then going to ask you to lie on any other bed on your floor and do the same thing. Notice the pressure in your shoulders and hips.

That’s it. Time is up.

Do you get it?

Two simple things; Uplifting support, even from a mattress that seems plush. And, bottomless pressure relief for your shoulders and hips. Pressure relief is critical to your sleep. It keeps blood flowing to your extremities, which keeps you from tossing and turning through the night diminishing the quality of sleep even if you don’t wake up during it.

Why is there foam on the bottom of a Latex Bed?

This is a great question. The answer is simple and it has to do with manufacturing the mattress.

Imagine a 200-pound sneaker that was six feet wide and six feet long. Now imagine moving that around from left to right or forwards and backwards on your dining room table. That would seem difficult right? Why? Because rubber naturally has a gripping surface. That is why they use it to grip in many applications; Tires, Sneaker soles, crutch and cane tips.

Rubber is an amazing high quality material that is not only heavy but also very difficult to move. When we build a bed, we have to move it a lot. To make it moveable, we added one inch of poly to the bottom of all of our constructions. Simply put, you can slide poly around with rubber on top of it, but you can’t move rubber by itself easily.

There is one more reason, the fire retardant cover adheres better to the poly on the bottom of the bed than it would latex.

The Difference Between One Bed and Another

Most consumers want to know what the difference is between one mattress in our line and another.

This is the simplest way we know how to answer that question---

All of our Natural Talalay Latex Rubber beds use the same material and is built with the same overall design. They are all healthy for you and will likely last the same amount of time because they are made of the same thing.

The single difference is this:

When you buy a bed with more Natural Talalay Latex Rubber, it will give you more “uplifting support” and at the same time give you more “bottomless pressure relief.” More inches equals more benefit. It is that simple. When you buy a bed with less Natural Talalay Latex Rubber, you will get less pressure relief and support. That makes sense.

What else? Aside from a different feel from bed to bed, that is the answer. Simple. Easy to understand.

Everything on One Page

Everything Bliss on a Page

Here are FIVE points that tells you everything you need to know about Pure LatexBLISS

1. It offers “bottomless” pressure relief for your body. Whether you are on your back or side, you will have less pressure on more inches of Talalay Latex. Did you know when you lay on your side, your shoulders and hips have 7 times more pressure on them than when you lay on your back? Pressure relief is important to your muscles and it keeps the blood flowing to your extremities so you don’t have numb fingers, hands and arms. But more importantly, your body responds to pressure by moving during the night which will likely lessen the quality of your sleep.

2. It offers “uplifting” support for your body. Your body needs support. It needs it for ideal body alignment and ideal spinal alignment. The benefit of good support is good posture. We love the phrase, better posture at night equals better posture during the day. Talalay Latex Support Cores offer an effect that is not found with coil beds, poly core beds or memory foam beds. Latex is uplifting and it is also pressure relieving. All other materials in a mattress are either one or the other, but not both. Most people think they need a firm bed, but that is only partially true. They need a bed with strong support, but they also need a bed that offers pressure relief on top of that. Firm on the bottom and soft on top is probably a more ideal formula. All of our beds are designed with that in mind.

3. It offers a “resilient” natural rubber construction. Most people want a mattress to last a long time. It is a big investment. Simply put, you can buy an $800 mattress three times over 20 years or you can buy one $2000 mattress and have it last 20 years. Natural Latex Rubber is incredibly resilient. And it is practically the only thing in our mattress. The easiest way to understand that Latex lasts longer is to understand that latex is a rubber not a poly foam. Rubber is more resilient. It’s the nature of the material.

4. It is Healthy By Design.

a. It is naturally breathable so it dissipates body heat
b. It is naturally mold and mildew proof so it may help your sneezing and wheezing
c. It is naturally dust mite resistant if you have asthma
d. It is naturally antibacterial and antifungal
e. It is naturally hypoallergenic so it doesn’t off gas
f. It is naturally motion isolating so you will feel less of your partners movement

5. It is a Pure Design. Because we don’t quilt the top of the mattress, don’t use fiber in the top of the mattress, and don’t use foam in the top of the mattress, consumers get all the healthy benefits of latex. There are many beds that have an inch or two or three of latex in them, but the consumer sleeping on top will never get any of the benefits of latex because there is a layer put over the top of it that dilutes or takes away all of the healthy qualities of the latex.

Latex Allergies

It is common for people to ask about latex allergies when they are considering a latex bed. My experience is that people that have a diagnosed latex allergy are easy to talk to about latex beds because they know a lot about the condition.

There are two approaches; we have found that overwhelmingly the first of these two is better.

Latex allergies are topical allergies. That means when your skin comes into direct contact with latex, it is irritated. Many people that are allergic to latex learn that they are allergic when they used a latex band-aid or someone used latex gloves during a medical examination directly on their skin. Of course, in a bed, consumers don’t come into direct contact with the latex. Consumers are removed from the latex because of the layers of material between them and the latex. For most people that means this:

They have a fitted sheet on the top of their mattress.
There is a mattress protector under that.
There is a 400+ gram weight mattress cover, which consists of three layers of fabric under that on every Pure LatexBLISS bed.
There is a fire retardant layer under that on every Pure LatexBLISS bed.
The natural latex rubber is under that.

The other way to talk about it is this.

Many times, consumers are allergic to the proteins in latex. Natural Talalay Latex Rubber is rinsed five times in the manufacturing process. Dunlop Process Latex is rinsed one time. Here is the problem in using this as an explanation; whether the latex is washed out once or five times, how do you guarantee a consumer that ALL of the proteins were washed out in either process. It certainly makes sense that five times is better than one, but lingering in a consumer’s mind is always whether everything is gone.

Fabric Weight and Content

Pure LatexBLISS uses 450-480 Gram Weight fabric on their beds. It is the heaviest gram weight, highest quality and most expensive fabric used across an entire line in the industry.

The fabric is made from the following:

43-46% Viscose (depending on the mattress model) which is 50% Natural. Viscose is made from viscous organic liquid. It is manufactured by dissolving pulp from wood, hemp or cotton fibers. Most would say that the cover is 21-23% Natural if you were comparing it to other fabrics. The Viscose is what makes the fabric so incredibly soft to the touch.

1-2% Spandex or Elastan (depending on mattress model.) The Spandex is what gives the fabric the ability to stretch so amazingly.

52-56% Polyester

Latex is a Rubber, Not a Foam

What makes Latex such a unique material is that it is a technically a rubber, not a foam. In fact, when Latex Beds were a significant share of the market they had brands that you would recognize only because they are names of rubber tires today. Goodyear, for example. Pirelli Latex Mattresses were common in Europe until recently.

As history goes, the very first use of rubber was to make Latex in 1600BC. Of course, it didn’t make it to bedding until the 1920s.

Many of the benefits of Latex are a result of the fact that it is simply rubber. Durability being most significant and better than foam. Think of products you know that are made from rubber. How different would they be if they were made from foam. How resilient would tires be if they were made out of foam? How resilient would your sneaker tread be if they were made out of foam? How resilient would a racket ball be if they were made out of foam?

Technically, here is what makes rubber different than foam.

Rubber materials share elastic behaviors not found in polyurethane foam.

Rubber are polymers having unique properties of elongation and elastic recovery after vulcanization. The key is thermosetting.

Rubber material, unlike poly, has the ability to be stretched significantly without breaking and to retract to its original shape and size. This unique stretching behavior of rubber has everything to do with the MOLECULES and the BONDS that make it up. When stretched, these bonds UNCOIL. When the strain is relieved, they RECOIL. This gives rubber ELASTIC qualities which makes it resilient. When vulcanized, natural rubber double bonds become single bonds and are FLEXIBLE and COIL AROUND each other. Natural Latex Rubber has a stereoregular configuration-molecules repeat to form the chain- which is why it has HIGH STRENGTH upon elongation

The Red Cross

There are many great causes to support. We like the Red Cross for two reasons.

First, there is nothing as necessary to life than blood and there is always a great need. We feel the same way about sleep. We live in a nation that needs more sleep, desperately. And it is incredibly fundamental to living. It seems like such a great analogy to us.

Additionally, when disaster strikes, the Red Cross is there… anywhere in the world. We have followed the Red Cross into areas after disasters and watched them mobilize. It is remarkable. They help people that need help when they need it.

Please consider giving blood.

Good for you-- Good for the environment

Pure LatexBLISS is a brand that is good for the environment.

First, our beds are made with Natural Talalay Latex Rubber. Latex rubber starts as sap from the Hevea Tree. The process to make the Latex Rubber is Oeko-Tex compliant (Europe’s highest environmental consumer product standard.) This standard ensures it is free of harmful substances or chemicals and has no solvents that can damage the ozone layer. From a carbon footprint standpoint, the majority of our assembly facilities are tangent to a Latex International Latex Cutting Facility, This means trucks do not haul mattress cores from a Latex Plant to our assembly facilities. A semi does not carry a great quantity of mattresses so reducing this step not only saves you cost and makes our operation more efficient, but is good for the planet.

Honestly, there are a lot of latex mattress brands that are good for the environment.

What makes Pure LatexBLISS uniquely different is we have always kept the planet in mind, but truly designed a mattress to be healthy for you first.

Our quilt free, fiber free, upholstery foam free design allows the latex to do what latex is supposed to be healthy for you.

Natural Talalay Latex Rubber is an incredibly healthy component for a mattress. If it is built without many other materials on top of it, all by itself, it is

Naturally Breathable which dissipates body heat

Mold and Mildew Proof which can provide an allergen free environment

Dust Mite Resistant which can prevent runny noses, nasal congestion or asthma attacks caused by dust mite manifestation

Antibacterial and Antifungal which may reduce the spread of bacteria

Naturally HypoAllergenic because it does not produce toxic off-gases

Extremely resilient and durable for lifetime performance

Pillow Tops- Removable CustomFits

One of the most unique things that Pure LatexBLISS does is build removable pillow top accessories. Let me tell you a brief history of how we got there and why we like the design.

From a history perspective, pillow tops, as the industry knows them, have been around since the 1970’s. Many pillow top designs have had durability issues because mattress manufacturers are putting softer and lower ILD foams and fibers on the top or the sleeping surface of the mattress. It feels good in the showroom, but isn’t durable over time. What once felt supportive underneath and soft on top, turns to a flattened-out top or a top that sags that turns out to sleep too firm. With out expensive (high density--- 1.8 or greater) foams or natural latex and only a minimal amount of fiber, a pillow top can be a body impression waiting to happen.

When we looked at designing Pure LatexBLISS pillow tops, we found a design in Europe that we really like from several well-established brands. These brands had removable pillow top as accessories rather than pillow top mattresses. The feel of the mattress was incredibly unique, but we liked the benefits of this design for several reasons.

First, it allows a consumer to customize any mattress we build to their particular liking. We make 2 and 3 inch CustomFits. If a customer likes a mattress extremely supportive with a minimum of pressure relief, most of our mattresses could be purchased without a CustomFit removable pillow top and fit that bill. If a consumer likes it a bit plusher, a 2 inch CustomFit is ideal. If they like it ultra-plush feeling, a 3 inch CustomFit may be perfect. Of course, if a husband likes it one comfort level and their wife likes it another, it is possible to do both by buying a CustomFit for each side of the mattress. We sell many TXL CustomFits for King size beds.

Second, the CustomFit can be changed out over time if your preferences change. Your Pure LatexBLISS mattress is guaranteed for twenty years. If your body changes in ten years, you are able to change your mattress without replacing your bed.

Lastly, and important to note, CustomFit Removable Pillow Tops add additional pressure relief but don’t add a significant amount of support to a mattress. When adding a CustomFit, don’t expect it to give you more support, expect it to give you additional pressure relief making the bed feel softer.

Mattress Firmness- Plushness Scale

We are often asked which mattress is softer or firmer than another. Below is a simple chart to help explain that.

We have rated the mattresses on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the very plushest, and 1 being very, very firm.

This is important to note. Most mattresses tradeoff support and pressure relief. That means when other brands build firm or moderately firm beds, they deliver a lot of support and little or no pressure relief. Or, it means when other brands build a plush mattress, it may have a lot of pressure relief but not enough support for you. Talalay Latex Mattresses are DIFFERENT. You do not have to trade off support and pressure relief. In fact, the more Talalay Latex in the bed, the more support you get whether it is a firm bed or a plush bed.

Our Business Model

Pure LatexBLISS, LLC was founded by Kurt Ling and Joe Hunt and two other friends. Collectively their team of four has over 60 years of experience in the bedding industry, mostly at Simmons Beautyrest. They gathered and started the company because they all consider themselves “fans of latex.” Kurt remembers his parent’s first mattress as a Latex mattress and spent five years thinking about how to create a latex brand. Kurt is a dreamer. Joe cracked the code on how to use latex in a mattress. The Pure LatexBLISS mattress design is simple and that is its elegance. What makes it healthy and what makes it feel like no other mattress is the fact that the top of the mattress isn’t quilted with fiber and doesn’t use foam in the upholstery layer. Joe is the operations guy.

The Pure LatexBLISS model is unique. It is an exercise in “opposite thinking.“ Kurt credits a friend, Chic Thompson (www.whatagreatidea.com), for the creative thought process that established many of the principles of the company.

Fundamentally, Pure LatexBLISS is set up exactly the opposite of the rest of the mattress industry. The best example may be of how a mattress is made.

Most of the industry uses a combination of inexpensive components (Fiber, foam, light weight fabric) to make a mattress. Pure LatexBLISS uses only the most expensive component and heaviest weight fabric available.

Most of the industry takes up to two hours and dozens, if not hundreds, of people to assemble a single mattress. Pure LatexBLISS uses two people at a time and five to ten minutes to build a mattress.

Most of the industry uses expensive equipment including quilting machines, conveyor systems, and tape edge machines to build a single mattress. Pure LatexBLISS uses a table.

Most of the industry builds pillow top mattresses. Most of them aren’t technically pillow tops anymore even though they look like they are because of the cording on the border of the mattress. Pure LatexBLISS makes removable pillows top accessories for any mattress that are the real deal.

Aside from plant operations, here are other examples.

If you have a question, Pure LatexBLISS will answer it. Our customer service department is staffed seven days a week. We want to help you.

Our marketing is word of mouth. Not television ads, info-mercials or sale ads in your paper.

Our retail sales associate training is on twitter and YouTube, not full time sales reps hired to service accounts.

We don’t have a large office with many meeting rooms and a boardroom that overlooks a lake. Our overhead is low so we can use the finest ingredients in the world to build beds that are 30-40% lower than other brands that use similar materials. You are likely to buy our beds for the same price that you buy other brands memory foam and poly beds or latex and poly beds.

Founders Bios

Kurt is originally from Iowa and now lives in Atlanta. Kurt is married and has a son and daughter. Joe is originally from upstate New York and now lives in New Jersey. Joe is married and has two girls.

Kurt started his career in the appliance business with Maytag and says his most exciting project was helping bring the front-loading washing machine back to market in the late 90s by introducing Maytag Neptune. Kurt continued his career at Simmons where he led the Simmons Beautyrest brand and lead the non-flip design to bedding in 2000. It was a blockbuster hit for Simmons and practically the entire industry followed within three years. Not only in the United States, but also in many parts of the world. Before co-founding Pure LatexBLISS, Kurt consulted with Sealy, Spring Air, Kingsdown/Sleep to Live and some of the largest retail dealers in the furniture and mattress industry. Kurt was featured in FAST COMPANY on the “Fast 50 List of Dreamers and Doers.” He was also featured in Fortune Magazine and was recognized by UVA’s Darden Business School as a Growth Leader.

Joe started his career at Simmons Beautyrest, which is where he and Kurt met. Joe spent his first few years in many parts of the Northeast in Sales and Sales Management. He also was a Director in National Accounts. He worked for Ashley Furniture in the Millennium Furniture Division and was then asked to design and merchandise the Ashley Sleep Program. It was at Ashley that Joe learned principles of lean manufacturing that shaped not only the Pure LatexBLISS product but also the company.

Flame Resistant Barrier Information

Pure LatexBliss

RE: Paladin™ Flame-Resistant Barriers

To Whom it May Concern,

The purpose of this letter is to address questions regarding the contents of our Paladin™
line of barrier fabrics. All of our barriers are composed of inherently flame retardant
rayon fibers blended with polyester fibers. It has always been our intention to provide
barrier materials that do not contain any topical chemical treatment on our fibers or
fabrics to provide the required flame resistant properties. Please be assured that the flame
resistant characteristics are inherent to the rayon fibers that we use, and no post-treatment
with chemicals is necessary. Rayon is a man-made fiber generated from natural
cellulosic derived from wood pulp. The flame resistant variety that we use in our barriers
is impregnated with silica (sand) during the fiber formation, thus making the flame
resistant properties inherent.

Regarding the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) that regulates the
concentration of lead and phthalates in children’s products, we confirm that our
Paladin™ line of barriers do not contain lead or phthalates above the specified limits.

Sincerely,

Types of Latex Mattresses

Latex Mattresses tend to fall into one of three categories:

The first category is all latex mattresses. That is when a mattress is practically all latex. Every inch of it. We call that a “pure” design. Most of the mattresses in the Pure LatexBLISS line are pure designs. These mattresses maximize the benefit of “uplifting support” in the support layer when Talalay Latex is used. They also maximize the benefit of pressure relief in the top layer.

Second, is hybrid latex mattresses. That is when a mattress has coils as the support layer and all latex as the pressure relief layer. We also make hybrid designs in the Pure LatexBLISS line. Hybrid mattresses with Latex in them are rare. If you are looking for a bed with steel springs and love the feel of natural talalay latex, this is a great option. Pocket coil or wrapped coil spring technology works well with latex. Open coil or continuous coil constructions do not work as well from a component match standpoint.

Last is a traditional mattress with a inch or two of latex in it. Typically, these mattresses talk about the benefits of latex even when it is buried underneath either fiber or other foams. Realistically, if there is fiber quilted or foam on top of latex, the health benefits of latex are minimized or eliminated. It is not uncommon for people to think a bed with an inch or so in it is a “latex bed” however, that is more accurately described as a “bed with latex in it” rather than a “latex bed.”

We’re passionate about latex. And we are purists. When we are asked if you can have too much latex in a mattress or if there is a point where you are paying for latex that you are not sleeping on, we are adamant about our answer. All latex beds offer support that is unparalleled with any other bed construction if Talalay Latex is used. Additionally, “all latex” beds are the most resilient beds you can buy. One simple ingredient--- one outstanding component, great bed over a lifetime.

Jokingly, we have also said, having an all latex bed is no different than wanting “all white meat chicken breast” in chicken nuggets rather than chicken/chicken parts blend; 100% cotton sheets rather than 60%/40% cotton/poly blends; ale beer instead of low calorie beer; an all leather recliner instead of a leather/pleather combination; or an all wool suit instead of a 55%/45% wool/poly blend that is shiny and hot.

Chemicals in Mattress Materials

Many people are beginning to research the materials found in mattress materials.

We have read some educational articles written in the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease, Water Based Adhesives Technology Review and Aerias- Air Quality Services that shed some light on this subject.

We will review the toxic chemicals, non-toxic chemicals and natural materials found in mattress adhesives, poly foam and visco (memory foam,) synthetic latex, and natural latex.

First and foremost, taking note of what the adhesives are (what holds the mattress components together) in the construction of the mattress may be far more important than the layers if you are looking at chemicals. Solvent-based adhesives appear to be far more challenging than components themselves. Pure LatexBLISS mattresses use latex adhesives and NOT solvent-based adhesives.

These articles state that solvent based adhesives have 48 toxic chemicals in them (too many to detail), 1 non toxic chemical (diphenyl diisocyanate,) and 1 natural material (water.)

These articles state Poly Foam and Visco Foam has 7 toxic chemicals (1,1,1,2 Tetrachoroethane, acetone, and dimethylformamide, Methyl benzene, Methylene dianiline, toluene-neoprene and Vinilideine chloride,) 1 non-toxic chemical (diphenyl diisocyanate,) and 1 natural material (water.)

These articles state Synthetic Latex has 5 non-toxic chemicals (2-chloro-1--3-butadiene, diphenyl diisocyanate, metallic oxides, Phenol-melamine resins, sulfur, Tellerium) and 1 natural material (water.)

These articles state Natural Latex has 6 non-toxic chemicals (acrylate resins, diphenyl diisocyanate, Phenol-melamine resins, Phenol-urea, Polyvinyl acetate and waxes styrene- butadiene copolymer) and 3 natural materials (fats, hevea brasiliensis milk, and water.)

Laundering Zippered Covers

All of our Mattresses and CustomFits have washable zippered covers. You should always sleep on a clean sleep surface. It’s the healthy thing to do. Of course, you should use a mattress protector. Waterproof mattress protectors are best. A zippered cover adds another level of protection in cleanliness.

Below are a few hints on how to clean your mattress cover.

Wash only the top part (the fabric you sleep on) of the mattress cover. It is likely only the top part needs to be laundered and the cover will clean better if it is the only thing in the load. Additionally, do not remove the fire retardant layer that is attached to the latex rubber.

Wash in warm or cold water

Use regular detergent. Be careful not to use harsh stain removers or bleach. Regular laundry detergent will remove most stains if treated according to stain type (proteins, etc)

Air-drying the cover is ideal. A second option is using you dryer at its lowest heat setting. Try not to over dry the cover.

Replacement covers are available if you may need one.

Custom Fit Warranty

The first 10 years is non-prorated

The last 10 years is prorated

Mattress Warranty

Natural Latex Rubber is one of the most resilient materials available. Additionally, our mattresses are made with one primary element. These two reasons together--- simplicity of design and use of the highest quality material simply makes our mattresses have a better performance life. Many people tell stories of having Talalay Latex mattresses for twenty and thirty years.

We have our mattresses tested for durability by a third party for objective measure. They are both roller tested and Cornell tested by Stork Testing in Minneapolis, which is the largest testing lab in the world for mattresses. The results of these tests are consistently significantly better than industry standards for both coil mattresses and non-coil mattresses.

Our Warranty is 20 Years on the Natural Latex Rubber.

The first 10 years is non-prorated

The last 10 years is prorated

If you would have an impression greater than ¾” it is considered a defect.

Remember to keep your original sales receipt and do not remove your law label. These are the two items you need to make a warranty claim.

Important: Your mattress frame is critical. Be sure to use a 5 leg or 5 cross-slat frame.

The Difference Between Talalay Latex and Memory Foam

Although both talalay latex rubber and memory foams are merchandised as premium materials in mattresses around the world, the two materials are actually opposites in many ways.

Listed below are several ways these materials are different from one another.

Talalay Latex is a rubber. Memory foam is a foam.

Talalay Latex rubber is a natural material derived from the hevea tree. Memory foam is a synthetic material and is a petroleum-based product.

Talalay Latex rubber has a breathable design and cell structure that provides a temperature neutral environment. Memory foam is a dense material, which needs heat to activate its pressure relieving quality. It tends to sleep warmer.

You “sleep on” Talalay Latex rubber, it has an uplifting affect. You “sleep in” memory foam.

Talalay Latex rubber is a two dimensional material. It is both supportive by being uplifting and is also pressure relieving. Most memory foam mattresses use memory foam in the pressure relief layer and tradition poly foam in the support layer.

Talalay Latex rubber provides an “uplifting” effect. Memory foam provides a “sinking” effect.

Talalay Latex rubber is “bottomless,” even when you lay on your side, your body does not “bottom out” into a hard layer in the mattress or on the foundation. Memory foam allows you to bottom out onto what is underneath it.

Talalay Latex rubber is a fast response material. When you move, it immediately responds to your new position. Memory foam is a slow response material.

Talalay Latex rubber is hypoallergenic and does not off-gas. Memory foam is a petroleum-based product.

Talalay Latex rubber is extremely durable. Because it is vulcanized, it is the most resilient material available in a mattress.

Talalay Latex rubber is antibacterial and antifungal.

Talalay Process and Dunlop Process Difference

We are often asked what the difference is in our Talalay Latex and Dunlop Latex (Latex Light.) Aside from having different benefits, the process, which they are made, is very different.

The first way to understanding how different these two processes are may be to point out how long it takes to manufacture each product. To make a TALALAY Latex mattress core, it takes 14 hours. To make a DUNLOP Latex mattress core, it takes less than one hour.

Here are the steps for each:

Talalay:

Fill the Mold

Vacuum Seal the Mold

Freeze the Latex at -20F

Add CO2 to Gel the Latex

Vulcanize the Latex at 220F to Cure it

Remove the Latex from the Mold

Rinse the Latex in a 5 Stage Rinse Process

Extended Drying Process

Dunlop:

Line Fill

Still Gel

Heat to Cure

Rinse the Latex (One Rinse)

Extended Drying Process

Interesting Note: Many people assume all Talalay Latex to be Natural Latex and Dunlop Latex to be Synthetic (Petroleum based) Latex. The formulation of the latex is actually independent of the process. It is easily misunderstood as much of the world’s Talalay latex is natural and the leading manufacturer’s of Dunlop latex is synthetic. Dunlop latex can be made using natural latex but it is rare.

Talalay and Dunlop Latex Benefit Difference

There are significant differences between Talalay Process Latex and Dunlop Process Latex. Let us point out the most significant differences and why they exist.

Breathability:

Talalay Latex is FOUR TIMES more breathable than Dunlop Process Latex.

Why? Talalay Latex is aerated and has a large cell structure. Dunlop Latex is denser latex and has a small cell structure.

Pressure Relief:

Talalay Latex is 33% more Pressure Relieving than Dunlop Latex.

Why? The Vacuum process used in making Talalay Latex allows for the latex to stretch like the rubber in a rubber band so it allows your body to sink in. Dunlop Latex is a Poured process that creates latex which is less flexible. The rubber is more like the rubber in an eraser.

Durability:

Talalay Latex is 3 TIMES more resilient than Dunlop Latex.

Why? The Talalay Latex Process creates a round cell structure. As the latex is compressed, a round cell structure does not break itself down. The Dunlop Process creates a snowflake cell structure. As you might imagine, as you compress a snowflake cell structure, the material breaks down.

Consistency:

Talalay Latex is the same feel at the top of the Latex as the bottom. Dunlop process latex is softer on top and firmer on the bottom.

Why? The Talalay Process uses Flash Freezing that prevents the particles from settling after curing. Because there is no freezing in the Dunlop process, particles setting in the latex during curing creating firmness on the bottom.

Clean:

Talalay Latex can wash out more proteins (which is a primary cause of latex allergies) than Dunlop Latex.

Why? The Talalay Latex process uses a five-stage rinse process. The Dunlop process uses one rinse.

Support:

Talalay Latex provides not only pressure relief, but also support.

Why? Talalay Latex is a two dimensional material. It offers support and pressure relief. Dunlop Process Latex is a one-dimensional material. It primarily offers pressure relief similar to foam.

Critical Mattress Design--- Support and Pressure Relief

Most people think of mattresses as being firm, plush or something in between. However, great sleeping mattresses actually are about being more than firm, medium or plush.

Mattresses designed for great sleep have two necessary components; a support function and a pressure relief function.

Support is what holds you up. It is what keeps your skeletal structure aligned. Proper support means proper posture. If you wake up and need to stretch out, get the kinks out, or snap your neck, you may not have proper spinal alignment for almost a full third of your day. A lot of people believe that a bed should be firm to be good for your back, but support is only part of the story.

Pressure Relief is achieved when you sink into a mattress a bit. Sometimes it is mislabeled comfort. Comfort is personal and subjective, pressure relief is scientific and objective. It can be measured. In fact, in burn units and wheelchair cushions it is often measured. Proper Pressure Relief means blood flows to your extremities, which can keep you from tossing and turning as much at night interrupting your sleep. I read this fact the other day, when you lay on your side, your shoulders and hips have SEVEN TIMES more pressure on them than when you lay on your back. Sometimes, this is why people wake up with numb fingers, arms or feet.

This is the most important point; a mattress needs to be both supportive and pressure relieving.

Most materials in a bed are either one or the other. For example, most coils are supportive. Most foams are pressure relieving. Fiber is neither, it is merely a filler to produce an aesthetic effect. Most mattresses have a combination of both coils and foams for that reason.

Natural Talalay Latex Rubber is different. Talalay Latex when used though out the mattress is both supportive and pressure relieving at the same time. It is naturally a two dimensional material. That means the more Talalay Latex is in a bed, the more supportive it is AND the more pressure relieving it is.

In TRADITIONALLY designed mattresses, there is a TRADEOFF between support and pressure relief. The firmer the mattress is, the less pressure relieving it is. The softer it is, the less supportive it is. In Natural Talalay Latex Mattresses, you don’t have to tradeoff. You can have both. Natural Talalay Latex has uplifting support and bottomless pressure relief.

Quilt Free-- Fiber Free-- Upholstery Foam Free DESIGN

One of the things that make Pure LatexBLISS mattresses most unique is that we do not quilt the top of the mattress, use fiber, or use upholstery foams.

Our design maximizes the benefit of Natural Talalay Latex Rubber in two ways.

First, Natural Talalay Latex Rubber is an incredibly healthy component for a mattress. All by itself, it is

- Naturally Breathable which dissipates body heat

- Mold and Mildew Proof which can provide an allergen free environment

- Dust Mite Resistant which can prevent runny noses, nasal congestion or asthma attacks caused by dust mite manifestation

- Antibacterial and Antifungal which may reduce the spread of bacteria

- Naturally HypoAllergenic because it does not produce toxic off-gases

- Extremely resilient and durable

-

This is the MOST IMPORTANT POINT; when Natural Talalay Latex Rubber is used at the very top of the mattress surface, all of these benefits are real for the sleeper. The reason why we call our brand “Pure” is because we don’t dilute the benefits of the latex. Traditionally, mattresses have put latex under quilting, under fiber, and sometimes under foam. This takes away much, if not all, of the benefits of Natural Latex Rubber. That means even though these beds may have latex in them, when the latex is under other materials, they aren’t breathable , aren’t mold and Mildew Proof, aren’t Dust Mite Resistant , aren’t antibacterial and antifungal, aren’t Hypoallergenic or as durable.

Our quilt free, fiber free, upholstery foam free DESIGN maximizes the natural benefits of latex and brings the benefits of latex to life. Traditionally designed latex mattresses minimize or eliminate the benefits of latex.

Secondly, Natural Talalay Latex Rubber has an amazing feel. Latex feels like no other material in a mattress. It is both supportive and pressure relieving. Again, the moment traditional mattress designs quilt the surface of the bed, use fiber in the surface of the mattress or use foam in the upholstery, the feel of Latex is lost. Think about it, Latex is the most expensive ingredient you can have in a mattress. Why do you want to put one of the least expensive ingredients, like fiber, on top of it? That would be like putting ketchup over steak.
