There are many great causes to support. We like the Red Cross for two reasons.
First, there is nothing as necessary to life than blood and there is always a great need. We feel the same way about sleep. We live in a nation that needs more sleep, desperately. And it is incredibly fundamental to living. It seems like such a great analogy to us.
Additionally, when disaster strikes, the Red Cross is there… anywhere in the world. We have followed the Red Cross into areas after disasters and watched them mobilize. It is remarkable. They help people that need help when they need it.

Good for you-- Good for the environment
Pure LatexBLISS is a brand that is good for the environment.
First, our beds are made with Natural Talalay Latex Rubber. Latex rubber starts as sap from the Hevea Tree. The process to make the Latex Rubber is Oeko-Tex compliant (Europe’s highest environmental consumer product standard.) This standard ensures it is free of harmful substances or chemicals and has no solvents that can damage the ozone layer. From a carbon footprint standpoint, the majority of our assembly facilities are tangent to a Latex International Latex Cutting Facility, This means trucks do not haul mattress cores from a Latex Plant to our assembly facilities. A semi does not carry a great quantity of mattresses so reducing this step not only saves you cost and makes our operation more efficient, but is good for the planet.
Honestly, there are a lot of latex mattress brands that are good for the environment.

Pillow Tops- Removable CustomFits
One of the most unique things that Pure LatexBLISS does is build removable pillow top accessories. Let me tell you a brief history of how we got there and why we like the design.
From a history perspective, pillow tops, as the industry knows them, have been around since the 1970’s. Many pillow top designs have had durability issues because mattress manufacturers are putting softer and lower ILD foams and fibers on the top or the sleeping surface of the mattress. It feels good in the showroom, but isn’t durable over time. What once felt supportive underneath and soft on top, turns to a flattened-out top or a top that sags that turns out to sleep too firm. With out expensive (high density--- 1.8 or greater) foams or natural latex and only a minimal amount of fiber, a pillow top can be a body impression waiting to happen.
When we looked at designing Pure LatexBLISS pillow tops, we found a design in Europe that we really like from several well-established brands. These brands had removable pillow top as accessories rather than pillow top mattresses. The feel of the mattress was incredibly unique, but we liked the benefits of this design for several reasons.
First, it allows a consumer to customize any mattress we build to their particular liking. We make 2 and 3 inch CustomFits. If a customer likes a mattress extremely supportive with a minimum of pressure relief, most of our mattresses could be purchased without a CustomFit removable pillow top and fit that bill. If a consumer likes it a bit plusher, a 2 inch CustomFit is ideal. If they like it ultra-plush feeling, a 3 inch CustomFit may be perfect. Of course, if a husband likes it one comfort level and their wife likes it another, it is possible to do both by buying a CustomFit for each side of the mattress. We sell many TXL CustomFits for King size beds.
Second, the CustomFit can be changed out over time if your preferences change. Your Pure LatexBLISS mattress is guaranteed for twenty years. If your body changes in ten years, you are able to change your mattress without replacing your bed.
Lastly, and important to note, CustomFit Removable Pillow Tops add additional pressure relief but don’t add a significant amount of support to a mattress. When adding a CustomFit, don’t expect it to give you more support, expect it to give you additional pressure relief making the bed feel softer.

Mattress Firmness- Plushness Scale
We are often asked which mattress is softer or firmer than another. Below is a simple chart to help explain that.
We have rated the mattresses on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the very plushest, and 1 being very, very firm.

That means when other brands build firm or moderately firm beds, they deliver a lot of support and little or no pressure relief. Or, it means when other brands build a plush mattress, it may have a lot of pressure relief but not enough support for you. Talalay Latex Mattresses are DIFFERENT. You do not have to trade off support and pressure relief. In fact, the more Talalay Latex in the bed, the more support you get whether it is a firm bed or a plush bed.

Our Business Model
Pure LatexBLISS, LLC was founded by Kurt Ling and Joe Hunt and two other friends. Collectively their team of four has over 60 years of experience in the bedding industry, mostly at Simmons Beautyrest. They gathered and started the company because they all consider themselves “fans of latex.” Kurt remembers his parent’s first mattress as a Latex mattress and spent five years thinking about how to create a latex brand. Kurt is a dreamer. Joe cracked the code on how to use latex in a mattress. The Pure LatexBLISS mattress design is simple and that is its elegance. What makes it healthy and what makes it feel like no other mattress is the fact that the top of the mattress isn’t quilted with fiber and doesn’t use foam in the upholstery layer. Joe is the operations guy.
The Pure LatexBLISS model is unique. It is an exercise in “opposite thinking.“ Kurt credits a friend, Chic Thompson (www.whatagreatidea.com), for the creative thought process that established many of the principles of the company.
Fundamentally, Pure LatexBLISS is set up exactly the opposite of the rest of the mattress industry. The best example may be of how a mattress is made.
Most of the industry uses a combination of inexpensive components (Fiber, foam, light weight fabric) to make a mattress. Pure LatexBLISS uses only the most expensive component and heaviest weight fabric available.
Most of the industry takes up to two hours and dozens, if not hundreds, of people to assemble a single mattress. Pure LatexBLISS uses two people at a time and five to ten minutes to build a mattress.
Most of the industry uses expensive equipment including quilting machines, conveyor systems, and tape edge machines to build a single mattress. Pure LatexBLISS uses a table.
Most of the industry builds pillow top mattresses. Most of them aren’t technically pillow tops anymore even though they look like they are because of the cording on the border of the mattress. Pure LatexBLISS makes removable pillows top accessories for any mattress that are the real deal.

Kurt started his career in the appliance business with Maytag and says his most exciting project was helping bring the front-loading washing machine back to market in the late 90s by introducing Maytag Neptune. Kurt continued his career at Simmons where he led the Simmons Beautyrest brand and lead the non-flip design to bedding in 2000. It was a blockbuster hit for Simmons and practically the entire industry followed within three years. Not only in the United States, but also in many parts of the world. Before co-founding Pure LatexBLISS, Kurt consulted with Sealy, Spring Air, Kingsdown/Sleep to Live and some of the largest retail dealers in the furniture and mattress industry. Kurt was featured in FAST COMPANY on the “Fast 50 List of Dreamers and Doers.” He was also featured in Fortune Magazine and was recognized by UVA’s Darden Business School as a Growth Leader.
